Hagley's Creek Kids Youth Leadership Program: Black Powder
July 2oth
1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Discover the process of making black powder by taking a guided tour, peeling some willow branches, and mixing some tasty “black powder” of your own. Explore military and camp life by discovering the rations assigned to soldiers, making a poke bag to store them, sifting the different grades of black powder, and hearing a signal cannon fire. Learn about the other uses of black powder by experimenting with fireworks, watching a stone cutting demonstration, giving yourself a (temporary) tattoo, and becoming a miner for the afternoon. Visitors can also help support Delaware Survivor Outreach by writing a letter to a Gold Star family, a family who has lost a member in service to our country. For more information: www.hagley.lib.de.us
