Pokémon Go Sunday at DMNH
connects the game with the study of natural history
On Sunday, July 24th from Noon - 4:30 p.m., the Delaware Museum of Natural History will host Pokémon Sunday.
Pokémon and natural history have a unique connection. The founder of Pokémon, Satoshi Tajiri, collected insects as a boy, and was interested in becoming an entomologist. He created Pokémon to share his enthusiasm for collecting critters. And, Pokémon can arranged using phylogeny - a scientific term for a detailed evolutionary family tree. Just like actual scientists and researchers in natural history, Pokémon fans discuss, debate and analyze how the information should be categorized.
There will be a special admission price of $5 for visitors who show the downloaded Pokémon go app on their mobile device at the Visitors' Services desk. Only one $5 admission per mobile device, and this discount may not be combined with any other discounts or coupons.
The museum will drop on-going lures on a Pokestop inside the building (hint: dinosaurs). There are also two more Pokestops and two gyms on the grounds outside.
The day will also feature a Pokémon-themed scavenger hunt connecting the game to natural history. Visitors can learn what Pokémon-like creatures are floating around the Delaware Museum of Natural History.
The person with the highest CP (Combat Power) caught during the day will receive a prize package, including four admission passes to DMNH for a future visit.
