“White Snake” ~ Shadow Puppet Performance for Chinese New Year
Please join us for a special winter Creative Family Performance on First Friday. New York’s award winning Chinese Theatre Works premiers their new Canstastoria show “White Snake” at The Creative Living Room, on First Friday, March 1st at 6PM, in celebration of the Chinese New Year. This performance of one of the best-loved tales in Chinese literature becomes a story-telling spectacle that fuses music, cinematic Powerpoint projections, and traditional shadow puppetry in the masterful hands of puppeteer, Stephen Kaplin, (who designed the shadow puppets for Julie Taymor’s ‘Lion King’). “White Snake” is an ancient legend depicting the adventures of enduring love between a powerful snake spirit with magical healing powers and a young girl. Kaplin humorously narrates the main voice of all the characters using hand crafted and painted colorful images translating this time-honored Chinese cultural material for contemporary American families creating a unique theatrical experience that will delight audiences of all ages.
Location: 15 Chester Road Swarthmore, PA 19081
This event is appropriate for: geared for ages 3 years and older, especially K- 5th grade.
Cost: Tickets $5 per person, (infants free) special price for First Friday. Includes pre-show activities starting at 5:30pm, with Chinese songs, lion puppet parade and a simple craft.
